One night—a few shots in and feeling bold—I threw a call out on social media for artists. A few responded, but one stood out immediately. Her portfolio had this raw, haunting elegance that just fit. It felt like she could see the same strange world I was trying to build. Her rates were high, but I believe in paying people what they’re worth, especially artists who pour themselves into their craft. So, I bit the bullet, set up a payment plan, and off we went.
Two years later—yes, two years—after a handful of sketches and a lot of quiet updates, she finally confessed that life had gotten in the way. She couldn’t finish. I was disappointed, of course, but more than that, I was sad for her. She’s insanely talented, the kind of artist who deserves to be discovered and supported. I still hope she finds her moment.
We decided to part ways, and I got my refund. bittersweet, but necessary.
Then came my current artist—the one I’ve been working with recently. He’s fast, professional, and, best of all, genuinely excited about the project. It’s been such a relief to finally see these characters come to life the way I imagined. and, as a little surprise… I decided to expand the original concept.
